Weather in Crete It's Great! You already know that, otherwise you wouldn't be considering moving to Crete in the first place. There are fours distinct seasons though, so let's take the rose tinted spectacles off for a moment though. The weather in Crete from May to September is glorious every day almost guaranteed! From October to April, the Crete climate can be more changeable, but never (touch wood) as bad as a winter in the UK. Crete's average temperature is around 12-14°C. When the sun shines it's hot, even in winter, but when it rains, and it can go on for a few days too!

Being the most southern of all the Greek Islands, Crete enjoys plenty of sunshine and the longest of all the summer seasons in the region, lasting from April to October. With its temperate Mediterranean climate, the island sees hot dry summers, and mild winters, and remains a popular destination all year round.

The hottest months in Crete are usually July and August. Daytime high temperatures range from 29-38 degrees Celsius at the beach, though it’s pleasantly cooler in the mountains, with predictable sunshine. June and September normally deliver fine sunny days and moderate-to-hot temperatures. The Mediterranean is warm enough for swimming particularly in September. Day time peaks between 23 and 29 degrees. May - is "normally" warm and sunny, with temperatures in the low 20’s. March, April, October and early November often provide warm and very enjoyable days - it becomes a lot less predictable at these edges of season months, but you’ll find it less crowded, more naturally Crete and for some the most enjoyable months. December - often good, but it is winter, same for January and February. During these first two months of the year there "should" be some rain, but again, not every day. The wind and sea combine on the island to produce some dramatic weather conditions at times. Day time peak temperatures range from 9 to 18 degrees (even colder in the mountains, warmer on a few days if you are lucky).
