The city of Stalida has been called an ideal family vacation spot on the Island of Crete, and is indeed an idyllic site.  Situated on the north coast of Crete near the town of Malia and the ancient Malia Palace (which was built over three millennia ago), and close enough to a nearby airport for convenience, Stalida does indeed seem the perfect blend of excitement, convenience, and relaxation. The palace of Malia is a beautiful historical site, originally built in the 1900’s BCE, it was destroyed, rebuilt in the 1650’s BCE, and destroyed again a couple of hundred years later.  Excavations started in the early twentieth century, and continue to this day, with much of the palace open to guided tours.

For those with less of an interest in history, Stalida offers plenty of adventure and modern pleasures.  The miles of sandy beach and the remarkably clear waters around the island come together with the welcoming atmosphere of the town and the wonderful variety of shops and restaurants to for a place that you will never want to leave.
Stalida is famous for sandy beaches and seaside restaurants, and is supposed to be both family friendly and welcoming to the late-nighters and partiers of all ages.  Stalida is known to be much calmer than the wild town of Malia nearby while still entertaining the lovers of nightlife.  For those who hate to miss the party, though, transportation to nearby Malia is quick and easy with the possibility to relax during the day in a slightly quieter town the next morning.

The many hotels and resorts in the area include the Stalida Resort, Horizon Beach Hotel, Primavera Apartments, Blue Sea Bungalows and many others.  These resorts arrange tours and activities through the resort staff, or you can wander the Stalida streets until you come upon one of the many tour companies or water-equipment rental stations.
There is plenty to do on land, but why bother when you can sail, Jet Ski, kayak, scuba dive, snorkel, or any number of other activities?  If you feel the need to stay on dry land, however, there are still plenty of activities that cater to your needs.  There are shops and local crafts on display throughout the tourist strip, warm beaches to relax on, and tours and adventures aplenty to help you make the most of your vacation to Crete.  For young couples, single adventurers, families, retirees and anyone else, there is something for you on the Island of Crete at Stalida.
