Οn the south coast of the prefecture of Rethymno, the picturesque tourist village of Plakias is situated. In its vicinity, in the area of Souda, the Phoenix bayl is located, the name of which derives from the ancient Greek village of Phoenix, which is believed to have flourished in this area. Finix (or Phoenix) is located in suberb wikd surroundings on the western site of the peninsula of the same name (Loutro is on the eastern side). Is not so easy as there is no direct road: take the boat to Loutro (from Hora Sfakion, Agia Roumeli, Sougia or Paleochora) then walk 15 minutes over the hill. There is a road alternative over Anopolis and Livaniana but it is very time-consuming especially if you do not have a 4x4

This is the perfect place if you love quiet surroundings in a remote place. One restaurant only but if you need more choice you can always walk over the hill to Loutro. Nightlife here consists of listening to the sound of the sea and distant goat bells. The pebble beach is small with some shade from tamarisk trees. Beautiful clear water. Finix is still one of the most peaceful spots in West Crete. It can get a little busy at weekends in the summer because it is popular with Cretans from the North coast who come for the weekend or the day.
