Crete has some splendidly huge mountains as well.  Here are the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) that take their names from the snow that can be seen all year round on their highest peaks.  The Mount Idi, or Psiloritis, and the mountain of Dikti, where according to mythology in the  cave of Dikti (Dikteon Andron) Zeus the father of the Gods was born and was suckled by Amalthea the goat.

Mount Dikti  is situated at the western side of Lassithi Prefecture. It  consists of peaks (Diktaian range), such as: of Mt Spathi (2148 m.), Mt Afentis Hristos (2141m.) and Mt Lazaros (2085 m.), Psari Madara (2,141 m.), Katharo Tsivi or Aliada (1,664 m.) etc. Its mass is dominating the Lasithi Plateau, the largest and prettier plateau in Crete. It is a place with a long history. Here is the Diktaion Antron, a cave where -according to the Mythology- Zeus was born.
