Kokkini Hani was originally a small fishing village, which became a popular weekend retreat for the residents of nearby Heraklion, thanks to the area's good sand and shingle beaches and clean warm waters. Nowadays there are several modern hotel complexes here, with a good selection of bars, and all the local shops and restaurants you'd expect in a growing tourist resort. Even so, Kokkini Hani (or "K-H" for short) is much quieter and laid back compared to the young and lively hotspots of Hersonissos and Malia, just a few kilometres further east. |
