Situated 16 kilometers far from Chania, at the West, just off the Old Road to Kastelli, Maleme is a beautiful historic village by the sea, with 700 permanent residents. Maleme has been one of the fields of the “battle of Crete” during the World War II, as, due to its location it is there that were landed the German parachutists’ division. Today it is a pretty well developed village with a lot of tourists choosing it for holidays.
