Falassarna is regarded as one of the nicest, natural beaches in Crete and one of the ten best beaches in Greece,
it is located 16 km west of Kastelli and about 45 km west of Chania. The road leading to Falassarna village is quite good and during the first 35 km it is part of the National road of Crete. The Falassarna beach is a long, big, sandy beach with amazing views during the sunset. The sea is always very clear and it tempts you go for swimming. There is plenty of space to play water-sports or beach tennis, there is also a volley field on the beach.

Before the greenhouses were built (was it 20 years ago or longer?) the place looked idyllic with the few small islands floating in the turquoise waters. You could only reach Falasarna via a dirt road, there was one small taverna and if I remember correctly it had a couple of rooms for rent. But Falasarna rarely saw any visitors at all. If you could find a wind free day it was paradise. Unfortunately wind free days in Falasarna are quite rare and when the wind blows the fine sand tends to sandblast you. Nowadays the area of Falasarna has a lot of greenhouses so the landscape looks far from idyllic. There are quite a few hotels, rooms and apartments but it seems still pretty low key. The wind still blows on most days but despite this problem the beach seems to have become quite popular and can get really crowded at weekends. The sea is still incredibly beautiful and it is probably the reason why so many people are willing to brave the wind.

You can visit Falassarna beach for one day as an excursion or stay in the nearby accommodation for longer, since the village is an ideal location to relax, unwind and fill your batteries. There is a cafe at the start of the beach and umbrellas and loungers at different locations. In the village, the cafe Galasia Thea is an ideal place for coffee and home-cooked dishes and the taverna Sun Set is a nice taverna for fish and classic Cretan food.
Falassarna Beach party is a fantastic event which take place always the first Saturday of August on the beach of Falassarna Platanos (Municipality of Kissamos) of Chania Prefecture . The incredible natural beauty of the clime in combination with that party, is promising to bewitch and to makes you feel that you are in a heaven! Anyone who visit this place for first time, aims to consecrate his visit cause the experience of the real entertainment!
